The Xiaomi Mi 11X is perhaps the best thing that has happened in the smart phone industry this year.As you can see from the heading I have termed it as the midrange flagship and I am pretty sure after going through this post you will not disagree with me. Generally midrange and flagship never go side by side. Flagships just raise the bar with all the top end specs and midrange phones refer to the budget friendly ones.It is true that most of us can’t afford the flagships.
The common trend in most companies are to launch more budget friendly options so that you can get a taste of what you are missing by not buying a flagship. For example recently Samsung launched two such midrange options GalaxyA52 and A72.But the Xiaomi Mi 11X is a different proposition. At the base price of ₹ 29999 INR this phone brings to you what most others do not.A look at the specs would make it more clearer.
Before diving into details I should mention that alongside the Xiaomi Mi 11X another phone the Mi 11X Pro launched and you can’t distinguish between the two from the outside. Both are identical phones in terms of size with certain major differences which I will point out at the end.Now let’s have a look at the specifications of the Xiaomi Mi 11X.
Looks in one word can be termed as premium. Rounded edges, minimal bezels,a very distinguishable rear camera module, a small punch hole front camera make up the Mi 11X. There are 3 colour variants, the Celestial Silver, Lunar White and the Cosmic Black. The first two have a frosted matte finish on the rear while the Black has a mirror finish.
The phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both front and back.It measures only 7.8mm in thickness and weighs 196g.The phone houses stereo speakers and in accordance with the modern trend there is no 3.5mm jack for wired headphones. The fingerprint sensor is sidemounted that is on the power button and this fact makes the phone feel like a low budget one.
Talking of display the Xiaomi Mi 11X sports one that will give even a high end Samsung phone very tough competition. The size is 6.67″ and the type is Super Amoled or according to the company E4 Amoled. The display is DisplayMate certified too.The resolution is 2400×1080 and the maximum brightness is 1300nits(claimed).It supports HDR and has a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.To summarise the display is top notch and leaves the competition at a similar price range far behind.
The phone runs on Android 11 with MIUI 12 slapped on top.MIUI 12 may be the only concern for many of you and I can just say that it has improved a lot. There are plenty of customisation options and most importantly bloatware has reduced (there are still some).
The best feature for a phone of this price is the chipset. The Xiaomi Mi 11X runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 which is actually an overclocked(3.2GHz maximum)version of the Snapdragon 865+ .It is 5G ready and runs on 7nm technology and is a very very capable chip.To be very frank it will run anything you throw at it.The GPU is Adreno 650.
There are two variants of LPDDR5 RAM,6GB and 8GB supported by 128GB of UFS 3.1on board storage. No card slot is present for external storage which again has become the new normal.
The camera module on the back is quite attractive in looks. The setup is a triple camera one with primary 48MP f/1.8 wide sensor followed by a 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor with 119°field of view and a 5MP f/2.4 macro lens. The primary sensor may seem a bit low on the magapixel count but the size of the lens coordinated with the software ensures good image quality. Night mode, Action capture and a whole lot of modes are available. Maximum 4K videos can be shot.
The front houses a tiny punch hole selfie shooter of 20MP f/2.5.Usual selfie modes are present.Videos of maximum 1080p can be shot on the front camera.
The Mi 11X is powered by a big 4520mAH battery with fast charging prowess of 33W.The phone can charge from 0 to 100% in advertised 52minutes only.
MI 11X PRO
Barring the following points everything mentioned above is identically present in the Xiaomi Mi 11X Pro. The differences are:
- The chipset is the latest and best for Android at this moment, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 which runs on 5nm technology. It is a noteworthy fact that the maximum clock speed of Snapdragon 870 found in the Mi 11X is of 3.2GHz while the Snapdragon 888 clocks a maximum speed of 2.84GHz.But the GPU is Adreno 660 which ensures better graphics and the same is proved by the benchmark scores.
- The primary rear camera is of 108MP.
- Because of the above two the Mi 11X Pro can capture 8K videos @30fps.
- There is only one RAM variant of 8GB and the maximum storage variant is 256GB.
- The base price of the phone is ₹39999 INR.
I hope it is very clear to all of you that the chipset and display quality alone raises the Xiaomi Mi 11X from a simple midrange phone to a highly recommendable one.To be very honest I find no reason to buy the Mi 11X Pro. The chipset scores more on benchmark scores, true but the difference is negligible. The only attraction is the 108MP camera but we all know very well that only megapixel count does not make a camera better.
Anyways I am becoming very fond of the Mi 11X. With time I hope the MIUI also improves and bloatware is reduced. What are your thoughts? Please let me know in comments.
