The new Vivo Y51 was launched on December 3 and is available for Rs.17990 INR . My question is at approximately 18000INR is it worthy of the price. The question naturally comes with the latest Motorola Moto G 5G which is available for ~21000 INR.
The phone has to offer quite a lot but the price is what I am worried about a bit.Anyways before going into the criticism let’s have a look at what the Vivo Y51 has to offer.
Table of Contents
APPEARANCE
Well the phone looks premium and beautiful. There’s no questioning that. The Titanium Sapphire and Crystal Symphony are the colour variants. Both are awesome and the matte finish enhances the aesthetics. The Vivo Y51 is just 8.38mm thick and it weighs just 188g.Sleek, Light weight and glittering matte finish colours describe the phone.
The display is 6.58″ IPS LCD with 1080×2400 resolution. The big display also comes with cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio. The pixel density is ~415ppi.Though It is IPS screen the brightness and the cinematic aspect ratio makes video watching an excellent experience.
On the back is a triple camera module which is of the same design as the latest Vivo phones. The 3.5mm jack retains its place. The speaker performance is enhanced by the audio booster present inside. The SIM tray hods 3 slots for dual 4G SIM s and a dedicated micro SD card slot which can expand memory upto 1TB.The fingerprint sensor is embedded on the power button on the side.Face unlock is also supported by the single notch selfie shooter.

PERFORMANCE
Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SOC which has an octa core processor which clocks maximum of 2.0 GHz and runs on 11nm technology. The GPU is Adreno 610.This is a time tested processor which is not lightning fast but overall very trustworthy and smooth performance.
Funtouch OS 11 which is the company’s own software skin is slapped over Android 11 making the Vivo Y51 a very up to date performing smartphone.
Vivo Y51 is available in only one storage variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. As I mentioned earlier the phone also has a dedicated micro SD card slot through which you can expand memory upto 1TB.
CAMERAS
This is the section where any Vivo phone always shines and the Vivo Y51 is no exception.A triple camera set-up is featured with a primary 48MP f/1.8 wide sensor,a 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor with 120° field of view and a 2MP f/2.4 macro sensor.4K [email protected] and 1080p [email protected]/60 fps can be captured.
Many camera features are pre installed like the Super Night Mode.EIS is present enabling super steady videos.
On the front is a notch which holds the 16MP f/2.0 selfie shooter.Videos of [email protected] can be captured with the front camera.Night Selfie is a special feature supported in the phone.
BATTERY
A big 5000 mAH battery is present in the Vivo Y51 which supports 18W fast charging speed. It is advertised to charge from 0 to 70% in 67minutes.
CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned facts it is clear that the Vivo Y51 has great looks,a very good primary camera,a quite good processor and a very massive battery.Still I have some issues with this phone.First and the main problem is the price. Not that it is heavily overpriced but it would be perfect at approximately 15000INR mark.
Why? The Snapdragon 665 is pretty good but as I said earlier at 3000 more you get a 5G chipset. The second issue is the LCD display.Again the display is excellent but at the price there are some phones offering an Amoled display.
The last problem is that 2MP macro lens which is useless to me atleast.
The Vivo V20 Pro 5G that launched a few days earlier is to me a very recommendable phone and it perhaps outshines even the OnePlus Nord.I cannot say that about the Vivo Y51.Anyways what are your thoughts? Please let me know in comments.
