Vivo X50 Pro is the middle member of the family which includes Vivo X50 and the Vivo X50 Pro Plus.Vivo recently launched these three smartphones with the X50 Pro Plus as the top flagship model.
Though the Pro Plus features Snapdragon 865 and also the new Samsung 50MP image sensor for its primary camera the Vivo X50 Pro has the most unique USP and that is its Gimbal OIS supported main camera.
A Gimbal in a camera refers to a pivotal point on which the camera may rotate and thus enables stable videos and excellent still images. In layman terms you can say that the Gimbal acts like a human eye which can rotate and capture beautiful images. It is well presented in the official commercials for example the following:-
The Vivo X50 Pro is a mid-range phone with mid-range processor and good cameras.Let’s have a look at the details.
DESIGN AND BODY
The design is definitely premium and the frosted back is beautiful to look at and hold. The top and bottom edges are flattened giving the phone a different look from others.Vivo X50 Pro has a glass front and back with an aluminium frame. On the back is a quad rectangular camera module and the almost bezel less front houses a single punch hole camera on the top left.

The dimensions of the phone are 158.5mm×72.8mm×8mm.It weighs 181.5g.As is evident the phone is pretty slim and light.
DISPLAY
Vivo X50 Pro sports a 6.56″ Amoled display with FHD resolution (1080×2376) and~90.6% screen to body ratio. The pixel density is~398 ppi.The display has a 90Hz refresh rate and supports HDR 10+.
Going along with the trend this phone also has a big display and the icing on the cake is the 90Hz refresh rate.Again for those who still haven’t used a phone with more than the customery 60Hz refresh rate please try out a 90Hz or even better 120Hz as soon as possible to get a hands-on experience of what you are missing.
It is worth mentioning that you get 120 refresh Hz display on the Vivo X50 Pro Plus. The X50 also features the 90Hz display.
OS, PROCESSOR AND STORAGE
Vivo X50 Pro runs the Funtouch OS 10.5 slapped over Android 10. Funtouch OS has bloatware and is not as efficient as some other UIs for example the Oxygen OS of OnePlus ( https://techknowsp.com/key-features-of-different-uis-android10-oneui-oxygenos-ios-13/ ). Its features Jovi which is Vivo’s personal voice assistant.
Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G which is quite capable midrange SoC. It runs on 7nm technology and has an octa core processor(1×2.4GHz,1×2.2GHz,6×1.8GHz). The GPU is Adreno 620. This chipset has been the go to one for all the the mid range 5G phones till now as it has a 5G modem integrated into it.
The phone has LPDDR 4X 8GB RAM with UFS 2.1 internal storage variants of 128 GB and 256 GB. There is no option for expandable storage.
CAMERA
REAR CAMERA
Vivo X50 Pro features a quad camera module with a primary 48 MP f / 1.6 wide sensor,a 8MP f/ 3.4 Periscope telephoto lens, 13MP f / 2.5 portrait lens and 8MP f / 2.2 Ultra wide angle sensor with 120° field of view.
The primary 48 MP camera has the the gimbal OIS(optical image stabilization) feature. The telephoto lens also has OIS with 5 X optical zoom. The 13MP portrait lens features 2 X optical zoom. The Gimbal ensures that none of your main camera image will be out of focus.
4K and 1080 p videos can be captured at 30 frames per second. The best use of the Gimbal technology will be while shooting videos. The object may be in continuous motion but the Gimbal will allow the phone camera to steadily focus on it.
FRONT CAMERA
On the front is a punch hole selfie camera of 32MP f/2.5 with HDR support. It also can capture videos of [email protected]
Cameras have always been the USP of Vivo phones both rear and front vowels. The Vivo X50 Pro will also not dissatisfy you as the camera comes with all Vivo camera features and the front camera also allows portrait selfies for your social media. Low light imaging along with the night mode is pretty good.
OTHER FEATURES
The phone features and under display optical fingerprint sensor. It also has face unlock via the front facing camera.
No 3.5 mm jack is present. It supports NFC and the usual Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB type C cable.
BATTERY AND COLOURS
Vivo X50 Pro is powered by 4315mAH battery which supports 33 Watts fast charging.
It is available in two colour variants the Dark Blue and the Light Blue.

CONCLUSION
In terms of innovations Vivo has always taken a leading role for example pop up selfie camera or the in display fingerprint sensor. The gimbal Camera sensor if it lives up to the the expectation then this may open the door for better smartphone cameras in future.
I should mention that Vivo’s decision for the next 50 series has shocked me. With all the the hype created in respect to the gimbal Vivo X50 Pro Plus which is the top model does not have it whereas only the X50 Pro features it. This may bring a doubt to the users mind that the gimbal is nothing but a gimmick.
Whether it is a gimmick or not that time will tell but one thing is sure that it is definitely a new feature which should be given a try. The problem I have is with the pricing. The Vivo X50 Pro is priced at around 600 euros and has launched in India for Rs.49990.Phones with the same mid-range processor is available for lower price for example the OnePlus Nord which is starting at Rs.27,999.
Are you willing to buy this phone only because of the new camera tech? Please let me know in comments.
