The Vivo V21 5G is available for prebooking at this moment. From all the advertisements, specially the one featuring Virat Kohli you will have realised that the highlighting aspect of this phone is the 44MP front camera with OIS i.e optical image stabilisation. Some of you may point out that all Vivo phones advertise their cameras first and hence nothings new with the Vivo V21 5G. But the fact is 44MP front camera is a rarity and OIS on the front camera makes it an elite device.
Well one doesn’t buy a phone forthe selfie shooter. So let’s have a look at the specifications of the Vivo V21 5G. Before diving into the details I should warn you that you will find a lot of similarities with the Vivo V20 Pro. Whether both are same phones with different names and minute upgrades that we will decide later.Without much adieu let’s have the detailed specs.
Premium, elite and simply beautiful are the adjectives that come to mind on seeing the Vivo V21 5G. The AG matte glass on the back is simply awesome looking. It looks shiny and yet because of the matte finish attracts very less fingerprints. It is very slim, just 7.29mm in thickness and at 176g is very lightweight also.Overall form factor is great and using it doesn’t need much finger gymnastics.
The colour variants are Dusk Blue, Sunset Dazzle and Arctic White.
As I said earlier the form factor is very good which essentially means that the display doesn’t cross that 6.5″ barrier. The Amoles display of the Vivo V21 5G is 6.44″ in size and is HDR10+ supportive. The maximum refresh rate is 90Hz and advertised maximum brightness is of ~500nits.The resolution is FHD+(1080×2400) with 20:9 aspect ratio and pixel density of ~409ppi.
You get the latest version of Android 11 and software skin of Funtouch OS out of the box.
Under the hood is the new Mediatek Dimensity 800U chipset which runs on 7nm technology. The CPU has an octacore processor and clocks a maximum speed of 2.4GHz.The GPU is Mali G57 MC3.
RAM is 8GB and internal storage is 128GB of the base variant. There is only one other variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB on board storage. You can also use a micro SD card for external storage but it shares slot with one SIM card.Vivo has come up with a new technology by which they are claiming that an additional 3GB of ROM can be used in addition to the RAM which doesn’t allow any lags in performance.
The Vivo V21 5G houses a triple camera module on the back. The primary lens is of 64MP f/1.8 with OIS and PDAF. This is followed by a 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor with 120°field of view and a 2MP f/2.4macro lens. The 8MP lens works like a multi workeras it also is used for the bokeh effects. The main 64MP camera is good as many of you might have seen in the Vivo V20 Pro but this time OIS has bettered the quality.
4K videos @30fps can be captured alongside 1080p videos @30/60fps.
Now the main talking point of the phone and that is the front camera. The selfie shooter is a punch hole camera of 44MP f/2.0 with OIS. This also can shoot 4K videos. Because of the big sensor and stability selfie, portraits and nightselfies are awesome. These are backed by the dual LED flash on the front which enable new camera feature the Spotlight Selfie.
The Vivo V21 5G sports an under display optical fingerprint sensor.
There is no place for 3.5mm audio jack.WiFi and Bluetooth have the latest versions but NFC is unavailable.
A 4000mAH non removable battery powers the phone which supports 33W fast charging. The current battery sizes of different phones may be more butter 33W fast charging compenstes that very well.
The 8/128GB model of the phone costs ₹29,990 and the 12/256GB version is priced at ₹32,990.
COMPARISON WITH VIVO V20 PRO
On a first look both the phones look similar.A closer look allows you to see that the V20 Pro has dual selfie cameras. The primary 44MP selfie shooter is same but the Vivo V21 5G has OIS support. The rear cameras are identical in terms of numbers and mega pixels but the V21 5G again has OIS for the primary 64MP lens which the V20 Pro doesn’t.
Displays are similar except for the fact that the V20 Pro doesn’t have the faster refresh rate.Batteries are identical.
The main difference lies in the chipsets. The Vivo V20 Pro has the Snapdragon 765G 5G SoC while the Vivo V21 5G houses the new Mediatek Dimensity 800U. These chipsets are also similar in many ways. The 765G clocks a maximum speed of 2.4GHz similar to that of the Dimensity 800U but the latter has 2 cores for the same speed while the former has only one core.So on paper the Dimensity 800U may look better but it’s performance has not yet been tested over a long time.
Overall the Vivo V21 5G looks a pretty good device in the midrange segment. The price definitely could have been a little lower considering it has the Mediatek SoC which is traditionally lower priced than its Qualcomm Snapdragon counterparts. The main highlights of the phone are the cameras and those of you who love images from a Vivo phone would surely love the V21 5G even more.
