Today i.e. 10/09/2020 Samsung launched the MEANEST MONSTER Samsung Galaxy M51.To be very honest I don’t know why it is so called but for the last few days the teasers have been going around claiming it to be the meanest monster and a virtual battle with a monster cartoon called Mo-B.Advertising at its best?
Anyways it will be available for sales from the 18th of September,2020 in India. The highlight is obviously the 7000mAH battery.Yes you read it right,a 7000mAH battery in a smartphone has been made possible by Samsung.Oh yes you genuinely can call that monstrous.
The base variant of the Samsung Galaxy M51 having 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage is priced at 24999 INR and the top variant of 8GB/128 GB will cost 26999 INR.The price is reasonable for what the phone offers. So let’s have a look at what this monster brings beside the mammoth battery.
DESIGN AND DISPLAY
The massive battery indicates a bulky phone but surprisingly it is not so.The Samsung Galaxy M51 is 9.5mm thick and weighs 213g.The phone comes in two colours – Celestial Black and Electric Blue. The back is made of glastic which is nothing but plastic made to look like glass. The front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
The right edge of the phone houses the power button with the fingerprint sensor over it and the volume rockers. The left edge contains the SIM tray which has dual Nano SIM slots and a dedicated micro SD card slot for expandable storage. On the bottom is the USB Type C port, speaker grill and the fan favourite 3.5mm jack.
On the back is the rectangular camera module housing a quad camera set-up while the front features a punch hole selfie shooter.Bezels are minimal.
Display is Samsung’s forte and the Samsung Galaxy M51 is no exception.A big 6.7″ S Amoled+ Infinity O display is featured.S Amoled+ ensures richer colours and more immersive video watching experience. The aspect ratio is 20:9.Talking of videos the Galaxy M51 is Widevine L1 certified meaning HD streaming of Netflix or Amazon Prime videos is possible.
Video watching is never good without good audio and the Galaxy M51 looks into that matter as well.Dolby Atmos is supported. On a whole the display is too good and I will go as far as saying that it is better than most other phones of same price segment.Maybe that’s why Samsung is calling it the meanest display.

OS, PROCESSOR AND STORAGE
One UI is slapped over Android 10.So the Samsung Galaxy M51 comes with all the customery features of OneUI barring DeX mode which is restricted to the flagships.Knox security is available which is a necessity in this age of online hacking. Also there will be lots of menus and settings app and you will be able to customise almost anything.
Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G clocking a maximum speed of 2.2GHz and it runs on 8nm technology. The G in the name stands for gaming and this really is a very good mid-range gaming chipset powered by Adreno 618. I should also mention that this is the same SoC used in Google Pixel 4A.
Gaming is also boosted by the Game Booster present in the phone.
6GB and 8GB LPDDR4X RAM are the two variants with 128GB onboard storage. You can also expand storage upto 512GB via micro SD card which has a dedicated slot for it.
CAMERAS
REAR CAMERA
The primary camera is a 64MP f/1.8 Sony IMX 682 sensor followed by a 12MP ultra wide sensor with 123° field of view,a 5MP macro lens for close up shots and a 5MP depth sensor for your portraits.
Like any other Samsung phone the Galaxy M51 also comes with lots of camera features including some Pro ones.HDR is obviously supported along with Night Mode. There are 99 filters present to enhance your images.Night hyperlapse videos are also possible.Maximum 4K videos can be captured. The exclusive Samsung Single Take feature is also present where you get 10 results from a single take including best shot and hyperlapse and boomerang videos.
FRONT CAMERA
The 32MP Sony IMX 616 front camera is in the form of a punch hole.Good portraits and 4K videos are possible.Smart Selfie Angle and Single Take with the front camera is also supported.Filters and beautification are customary features.
BIOMETRICS
The fingerprint sensor is embedded on the power button and is very fast.It is advertised to act in 0.21 seconds.Besides this and the regular pattern or password lock face unlock is also present with an advertised speed of 0.77seconds.
BATTERY
The highlight of the Samsung Galaxy M51 is the 7000mAH battery with 25W fast charging prowess. The results of this monstrous battery is eyebrow raising.Yes it is advertised to give upto 64hours talktime, upto 24hours internet usage time, upto 34hours video playback time or upto 182 hours music playback time.
Reverse charging is also supported and hence you can use the phone as a powerbank to charge other devices.
CONCLUSION
Samsung Galaxy M51 comes with an excellent display,a humongous battery, lovely cameras both front and back and the Samsung branding. To find faults in such a device is very tough but still I found two glitches which may have been eradicated.
First is the processor which is good but could have been better. For example the recently launched Poco X3 NFC houses Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G which is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 730G present in the Galaxy M51.The second problem or I should say a tiny glitch is the price of the top variant.
The top variant of the Samsung Galaxy M51 has 8/128GB storage and costs 26999 INR while with the same storage the OnePlus Nord costs 27999INR just a thousand rupees more and it comes with Snapdragon 765G which is 5G enabled.Though 5G is still a distant possibility for just a thousand rupees (INR) you get a quite better processor.
Again I have to remind you the battery and camera of the Galaxy M51 is far better than the OnePlus Nord.So think before buying.
Please tell me your thoughts. Is Samsung Galaxy M51 the MEANEST MONSTER? Let me know in comments.
