Redmi Note 9 has launched in India and is going on sales from 24th July via Amazon. Those of you who have kept a close look on the Amazon home page recently should have seen the advertisement of Redmi being the undisputed champion.Obviously it has included Xiaomi or more popularly known as MI phones.
The question to be answered is whether the Redmi Note 9 is a true undisputed champion or not. That’s for you to decide and I will help you by giving you a detailed description of the phone.First I am a little bamboozled at the marketing strategy.Redmi Note 9 Pro had released and is now unavailable for sale.In short the Pro version has launched earlier.
Anyways the Redmi Note 9 is a mid-range smartphone and may become a very popular one atleast to Redmi lovers. The specs are as follows:-
DESIGN AND BODY
The design is similar to the Redmi Note 9 Pro.Unique looks being that of the rear camera module. The colours on the back are beautiful for all variants and the company calls it the Aura Balance. The back is polycarbonate (plastic) along with the frame and the front is Corning Gorilla Glass 5.The phone is water repellant.
As you can see the fingerprint sensor is rear mounted. The front has an in display punch hole camera.3.5mm jack,IR blaster,USB Type C port and speakers are present. The dimensions of the phone are 162.3mm × 77.2 mm × 8.9 mm. The phone weighs 199 g.
Redmi Note 9 features a 6.53″ IPS LCD with FHD(1080×2340) resolution. The aspect ratio is 19.5:9 with~395ppi.The advertised maximum brightness is 450 nits.
It may not be Amoled but the display is pretty good for the price and the big size enables excellent video watching experience.
OS, PROCESSOR AND STORAGE
The Redmi Note 9 will be unboxed with MIUI 11 slapped over Android 10.Bloatware has been reduced mostly due to the Government order.
Under the hood is the Mediatek Helio G 85 SoC which clocks maximum 2 Some of you may be disappointed on hearing the chipset name but the Helio G 85 is quite efficient for the price we are talking about. It is also being called good for gaming and has an Antutu benchmark score of more than 200000.The processor is octa core(2×2.0GHz,6×1.8GHz).GPU is Mali-G52 MC2.
4GB and 6GB RAM variants are available. There is a dedicated slot for micro a SD card.Maximum of 128GB internal storage and minimum of 64GB is supported. The 4GB/64GB is priced atRs.11999,4GB/128GB at Rs.13999 and the 6GB/128GB variant at Rs.14999.
A quad camera module adorns the back with a primary 48MP f/1.8 sensor,a 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide sensor,a 2MP f/2.4 macro and a 2MP depth sensor. The ultra wide sensor has 118°field of view.Overall camera images are satisfactory.Close up images and Bokeh effects are quite nice owing to the dedicated lenses.Videos of 1080p can be captured at 30fps.
The punch hole front camera is a 13MP f/2.3 one with HDR support. It can also shoot videos of 1080p at 30fps.
As mentioned earlier the fingerprint sensor is rear mounted.3.5 mm jaxk is available for wired headphones.Speaker is also quite good.IR blaster is present as in other Redmi and MI devices. It has a coating of graphite inside for dissipation of heat. The phone has a triple sim tray, the third one for the micro SD card along with dual sim.Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB Type C is supported.
BATTERY AND COLOURS
As it is a proven fact that phones of this price range inevitably needs a big battery to satisfy customers Redmi Note 9 doesn’t compromise and houses a mighty 5020mAH battery which supports 22.5W fast charging. In addition the phone also supports reverse charging of 9W.
Pebble Grey, Aqua Green and Arctic White are the colour variants.
It is a quite efficient phone at the budget but is bound to have tough competition from the Poco M2 Pro which in truth is a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 9 Pro.
After the recent Indian Government ban on Chinese apps many of the usual pre installed bloatwares have been removed and the phone comes with a Made In India branding.Still the MI community app and the Cleaner app is present which should have been uninstalled.
Anyways the overall experience with the big display and good rear camera will be able to satisfy the target customers,I believe.Still it will be good to hear from you about what you think of the Redmi Note 9.So please share your thoughts in the comments section.
