OnePlus 8 Pro has already established its name in the flagship market and Oppo Find X2 Pro has just joined. Both phones are pretty similar but the question arises which one is better?
On talking of similarity their birthplaces are the same BBK Electronics as you know.I even heard that OnePlus phones are manufactured in an Oppo production unit somewhere. You can imagine how similar they will be.Still OnePlus and Oppo are different in their marketing strategies in their basic requirements.Oppo till now has targeted the mid budget section while OnePlus from its birth is touted as the flagship killers.
This time the Oppo Find X2 Pro is a flagship device of 2020 and is bound to be compared with the OnePlus 8 Pro.First thing the Oppo phone is costlier but then is it worth buying in stead of the OnePlus.Let’s see a detailed comparison of their specs sheet.
DESIGN AND BODY
Both the phones have premium looks.Infact from their fronts you will not be able to recognise them as they have almost the same display size with a punch hole front camera. The backs are quite different though.
The OnePlus 8 Pro has a glass back with AG Matte finish which gives a good grip and less fingerprint smudges. It has an aluminium frame and the phone is 8.5mm thick. It weighs 199g.
The Oppo Find X2 Pro has two back finish variants. One a Black Ceramic whose texture on top gives the grip and reduces fingerprint smudges. The other specially the Orange Vegan Leather back is awesome and easily beats the OnePlus 8 Pro in terms of looks. It also has an aluminium frame. The normal variant is 8.8mm thick whereas the leather variant is 9.5mm in thickness. The weight is 200g and 217g respectively.
Both the phones are IP68 certified water and dust resistant.Another thing you can observe from the images and that is the OnePlus has the rear camera in a more symmetrical position at the centre of the back while the Oppo phone has the more conventional camera position towards the top left edge.
OnePlus 8 Pro has a 6.78″Fluid Amoled display and the Oppo Find X2 Pro has a 6.7″Amoled display.Barring this small difference in size the rest are similar. Both have QHD resolution(1440×3168),~513ppi and most importantly come with 120Hz refresh rate. The standard 60Hz is also available and you can easily switch it on in settings.
Both are DisplayMate certified A+ displays. The Oppo Find X2 Pro comes with a 01 Ultra Vision engine and Motion Clear via which you can add frames to your videos i.e you can make a 30fps video into a 60 or 120fps one.Similarly the OnePlus 8 Pro has what they call a MEMC chip which does almost the same action.
This section may be the deciding factor on which phone to choose. The Oppo Find X2 Pro runs on ColorOS 7.1 based on Android 10 while the OnePlus 8 Pro runs the OxygenOS based on Android 10.Yes these two skins are different.
The OxygenOS is ranked among the best of user interfaces because of its similarity to pure Android and its customisation properties. It has an excellent Dark Mode and pre installed bloatware is also minimum.
The ColorOS of the Oppo with its latest version has improved a lot.Dark Mode and more customisation properties are available now.It even has one feature which is not present in OxygenOS and that is a dedicated One Handed Mode icon which is very essential for a phone of such a big display.
PROCESSOR AND STORAGE
Like most flagship devices this year both the Oppo Find X2 Pro and OnePlus 8 Pro have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC under the hood powered by Adreno 650 GPU.So no difference performance wise.
In terms of storage the OnePlus 8 Pro has two variants-8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage and 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.RAM is LPDDR5 and onboard storage is UFS3.0 powered. The Oppo Find X2 Pro comes in one variant-12GB RAM(LPDDR5) and 512GB internal storage(UFS3.0).
It is clear that the Oppo has an edge over the OnePlus phone in terms of storage capacity.Neither of them have any option of external storage.
Oppo Find X2 Pro has a triple camera module with a primary 48MP Sony IMX689 sensor with OIS,a 13MP periscope telephoto lens with OIS supporting upto 5x optical zoom and upto 60x digital zoom and a 48MP Sony IMX586 ultra wide sensor.
The OnePlus 8 Pro has a quad camera module with the same 48MP primary Sony sensor, another 48Mp ultra wide sensor,a 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical and upto 30x digital zoom and a 5MP color filter lens.
The Oppo phone with dual OIS and a better telephoto lens has the better camera settings and images as well.Yes there is an extra lens in the OnePlus but that color filter lens and its use has been a controversial topic. Moreover it has nothing to do with conventional images.
Both the phones can shoot maximum 4K videos at 30/60fps.
Oppo Find X2 Pro wins this segment also with its 32MP selfie shooter as the OnePlus 8 Pro has only a 16MP front camera.1080p videos at 30fps can be shot on both.
Both the phones are 5G enabled.Fingerprint sensors on both are under display optical sensors and both support face unlock.Bluetooth,WiFi 6,USB Type C and NFC are supported on both.Dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos is present in both and neither of them have a 3.5mm jack for wired headphones.
The Oppo Find X2 Pro comes with a 4260mAH battery which supports a whopping 65W fast charging. It can charge from 0 to 100% in just over half an hour. The battery is also dual celled thus less heating is ensured.
The OnePlus wins this segment with a 4510mAH battery which supports 30W fast charging but that is not the highlight. It supports 30W fast wireless charging with OnePlus charger though.
The absence of wireless charging is very noticeable in the Oppo phone and at the price point it should have been present.
Oppo Find X2 Pro is priced at €1199 i.e around 1300$ which is quite more than the OnePLus 8 Pro whose maximum is about 999$.It has a better camera setting, storage and a faster charging capacity but that does not account for such a difference in price. If you opt for the leather variant and that premium look is your target then there is nothing to say.Another premium feature i.e wireless charging is also absent.
It is not that the OnePlus 8 Pro is easily affordable and everything is perfect.Cameras or mainly image processing is still a concern at least it is behind the Oppo till now.But OxygenOS is its added advantage.OnePlus 8 Pro is priced at Rs.59999 for its top variant in India though it is not freely available for the ongoing pandemic.Oppo Find X2 Pro has not yet launched in India and it also has an availability issue in the US.
Anyways what are your thoughts on these two phones? Please let me know in comments.
