OnePlus 8 vs. OnePlus 7T looks the obvious comparison. You may think why the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is mentioned here. That’s because it is almost the same price as the OnePlus 8 and a very capable phone in the price range we are talking about.
In my opinion, based on what I have observed in many people including some of my close friends, there are basically three types of mobile buyers in general. One, those who buy a new phone after extensive research and then use it till all the juice is extracted out of the device. Two,who buy a phone and use it for one to two years and then upgrade and then Three those people who frequently buy new phones based on some attractive features for example camera.
I have excluded a big portion of customers who generally go for the budget section phones coz of the three phones I have listed here all are in the upper mid-range.
Now getting back to the topic of the 3 types of buyers I mentioned for the first type OnePlus 8 will be the obvious choice. It is the only one with 5G compatibility and so when you go for a future proof smartphone the OnePlus 7T and Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite being 4G enabled do not come into consideration.
The question now arises if you have a Oneplus 7T then should you upgrade to Oneplus 8 and if you wish to buy a new phone then which of the 3 should you buy? One thing you should know before going into the detailed comparison is that the Oneplus 7T is the lowest priced of the three.

DESIGN, DISPLAY AND CAMERA
OnePlus 8 and Oneplus 7T look almost same barring the camera modules. Both have a triple camera module at the back with 48MP primary lens.In the 7T the module is circular and in the Oneplus 8 it is cylindrical. The lenses are also different with the Oneplus 7T having a better one with a telephoto and ultra wide angle lens along with the main sensor. The Oneplus 8 on the other hand has a ultra wide and macro lens. The absence of telephoto lens is really noticeable. The front cameras on both are a 16MP sensor with a waterdrop notch in the 7T and a punch hole module in the 8.

The display of both are absolutely same with a 6.55″ Fluid Amoled display. Here comes the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite with all its glory.Displays are Samsung’s strength and the S10 Lite carries on the trend with a 6.7″ Super Amoled display. All the three phones have the same FHD+(1080×2400) Samsung features an always on display.
On the back of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is a rectangular triple camera module with yet again 48MP primary sensor and a ultra wide and macro sensor. On the front is a 32MP punch hole selfie camera.

The OnePlus devices are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and both have a glass back. The Galaxy S10 Lite’s back on the other hand is made up of what Samsung calls glastic. This gives a premium look,is more durable than glass and more scratch resistant but still at the price point glass should have been provided.
As is obvious from the above mentioned facts all the phones have the same display resolution with tha Samsung phone housing the biggest size and similar rear camera modules. The Oneplus 7T has a better selection of camera lenses but in practice the Galaxy S10 Lite takes better images.Samsung’s image processing may be the reason for that.In regards to front camera the S10 Lite is a clear winner.
The main difference though lies in the fact that both the OnePlus devices sports 90Hz refresh rate displays while the Samsung device supports the conventional 60Hz refresh rate.None have a IP rating for water and dust resistance.
OS, PROCESSOR AND STORAGE(With Price)
All the three phones run on Android 10 with Oxygen OS slapped over in the OnePlus devices and OneUI 2 on the Samsung device.A point may come when the choice between the sets will be on the base of the UIs.But besides stock android both the OneUI and Oxygen OS are the best out there.I will post a detailed description of these two very soon.
Oneplus 8 is powered by Snapdragon 865 while the 7T by Snapdragon 855+ and the S10 Lite is powered by Snapdragon 855.The 865 is the latest and 855+ is an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 855.On paper it may seem that the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite has the poorest processor but in reality the difference is negligible for a layman. The Snapdragon 855 is a very capable SoC and you will find no differences even while gaming.
The S10 Lite has two variants-8GB RAM+128 GB internal storage priced at ₹42999 and 8GB RAM +512 GB internal storage at ₹47999 in Flipkart. It also supports expandable memory upto 1TB with shared card slot.
OnePlus 8 has many variants- 6GB RAM+128GB internal storage priced at ₹41999,8GB RAM+128 GB internal storage at ₹44999 and 12GB RAM +256GB internal storage at₹49999.
OnePlus 7T comes with 8GB RAM+128 GB internal storage priced at ₹34999 and 8GB RAM +256GB internal storage at ₹37999.OnePlus phones are available on Amazon.
None of the OnePlus phones support expandable storage.
OTHER FEATURES
All the 3 phones support indisplay fingerprint sensor and also has Face Unlock feature.NFC is supported in all along with Bluetooth,Wi-Fi and USB TYPE C. 3.5mm audio jack is absent in all three. The S10 Lite has a single bottom firing loudspeaker while the OnePlus phones have dual stereo speakers.
BATTERY AND COLOURS
This is another aspect where the S10 Lite wins.It houses the biggest battery of 4500 mAH with 45W fast charging support. But it doesn’t have wireless charging capability.
Next comes the OnePlus 8 with a 4300mAH battery and supporting 30W warp charging.the OnePlus 7T has a 3800mAH battery with same fast charging power. Both having a glass back supports wireless charging.
The Snapdragon 855 is known to be energy efficient and added to the bigger battery makes the Galaxy S10 Lite the best phone in this section.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite has three colour variants- Prism Black,Prism Blue and Prism White.
OnePlus 8 comes with 3 options- Glacial Green, Interstellar Glow and Onyx Black.
OnePlus 7T has 2 variants- Glacial Blue and Frosted Silver.

CONCLUSION
As I already mentioned if you want a future proof phone there is no choice among the three but the OnePlus 8 .But if 5G which in reality is not present everywhere and it is not sure when it will arrive then there is frankly no meaning in upgrading from OnePlus 7T if you have one.
If you are going to buy a new phone then OnePlus 7T is the cheapest at this moment.Again if you can compensate with the 90Hz display, wireless charging or stereo speakers all of which are luxuries by the way then Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is a good option with better display, storage, camera quality and bigger battery.Yes it is costlier than the 7T but Samsung’s brand value is also to be considered. That said if you like Oxygen OS then there is no point in more discussion.
To be very honest the S10 Lite is a great phone and one of the firsts that Samsung has produced in the price point.Another phone worth mentioning in this category or range would be the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite but I have intentionally opted out of it because of the S-Pen which in itself is a feature worth buying a phone for.But not everyone is a fan of stylus es and so I have kept it out of the comparison.
So which phone would you buy? Please leave comments to let me know along with your thoughts.
