The Motorola G9 is the new entry in the low budget section of smartphones. It is the first phone in India with the latest Snapdragon 662 SoC made for these budget phones. It will be available for sale in Flipkart from 31st August,2020 for Rs.11499.
For the past few days the world has been talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra priced at~1400$. In comparison the new Motorola G9,a sub200$ phone sounds awkward but believe me its a relief to still hear such a price.
This phone is also a test of the new Snapdragon chipset. The price range we are talking about is like a monopoly for the Mediatek chipsets.Snapdragon’s entry will open many doors and as the competition increases we can hope for better chipsets at such low prices.
Let’s have a close look at the details.
DESIGN AND DISPLAY OF THE MOTOROLA G9
The looks of the phone is not premium if you expected so.Bezels on the side are minimum but nothing compared to some high end phones and the chin i.e the bottom has quite a big bezel. On the front there is also the tear drop notch selfie shooter. The rear houses a square camera module having three lenses and the flash.Under this is the fingerprint sensor.
There is a 3.5mm jack for your wired headphones and a single bottom firing speaker.NFC is supported. The phone is as they call it water repellent meaning that it will endure the sudden splashes.Dont think of using it inside water.
A 6.5″ IPS LCD display is featured with 1600×720 resolution. The aspect ratio is 20:9 which will give an immersive video watching experience and gaming.
OS, PROCESSOR AND STORAGE
With the Motorola G9 you get stock Android 10 experience with the Motorola gestures and shortcuts. To summarise it is a pretty good experience and most importantly bloatware is minimised.
Under the hood is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset with octacore processor (8×2.0GHz).It runs on 11nm technology. As it is a new chipset the performance is yet to be seen but the benchmark scores shows that this new SoC is quite efficient for its price.
4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage is housed. You can expand storage upto 512GB with a micro SD card which shares slot in the dual nano 4G SIM tray.
The primary camera is a 48MP lens with f/1.7 and the other two rear cameras are a 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4.The chipset promises to support all AI features of the 48MP lens.Night mode is present and portraits are also good thanks to the dedicated depth sensor.Videos of [email protected]/60fps can be shot.
The selfie shooter is a 8MP f/2.2 wide lens which supports HDR.Videos of [email protected] can be captured with the front camera as well.
BATTERY AND COLOURS
For a phone of this price range battery is a very important aspect. The Motorola G9 doesn’t compromise on that part and houses a massive 5000mAH battery which supports 20W Turbo (fast) charging.
The Motorola G9 is available in Forest Green and Sapphire Blue colour variants.
After its comeback if I may say Motorola has made quite a name specially in the mid and lower mid-range smartphone segment. They release a lot of phones and covers almost every price point.
The Motorola G9 is their entry in the sub 200$ range with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. As I already mentioned this price point is till now under the control of Mediatek chipsets. So the Motorola G9 with the Snapdragon 662 will be a eye opener for both Motorola and Snapdragon.
For users I can say that this device offers pretty much everything you expect at this price. If the processor stands up to what Snapdragon offers in its high end variants then the Motorola G9 will be a easy recommendation. We have to wait for that though.
