There may be lots of talk about flagship devices but the main rush is in the budget section. While thinking of high end flagship smartphones a few thousand Indian rupees more or less doesn’t affect a buyer but one or two thousand rupees more or less in the budget section may affect the total sales of a company’s brand.
Just yesterday I wrote about the Motorola Razr which costs well above Rs.1,00,000(1499$) and today I will talk about the newly launched Moto G8 Power Lite priced at Rs.8,999(~171$).That in a nutshell is the modern smartphone industry. You get two extremes in terms of budget.
Obviously from the huge gap in price its clear that there will be reduction in specs but rest assured even in the lowest budget section you get more than you could imagine 2-3 years ago.Let’s see what the new Moto G8 Power Lite, which will be available for sales in India(Flipkart) from 29th May,2020 at Rs.8999,brings.We will also compare it with its nearest competitor in terms of price, the Realme Narzo 10A available from 22nd May2020 in India(Flipkart) and priced at Rs.8499.
MOTO G8 POWER LITE
DESIGN AND BODY
It sports a plastic back and frame with glass display. At this price point you cannot expect more. The power button and volume rockers are on the right side and the back has a triple camera module with LED flash. The fingerprint sensor is also rear mounted and comes with an indent so that you will never miss it without looking. The rear also has the speaker grill which in general is seen at the bottom edge of most phones. The front has a waterdrop notch front camera module.
The bezels are also minimum with a slightly thicker chin at the bottom.
The dimensions are 164.9mm x 75.8mm x 9.2mm.It weighs 200g.The phone is splash resistant or as the company says water repellant.
The Moto G8 Power Lite features a big 6.5″IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen and HD resolution(720 x 1600).The screen to body ratio is ~83%,aspect ratio 20:9 and the display comes with ~269ppi.
As I was saying earlier with low budget you have to let go of some favourite specs like here the resolution is not even FHD.LCD capacitive touch screens with higher resolutions can compete with Amoled displays but 720p resolution is quite low in modern day scenario. But in terms of price the display of this phone is quite good unless you zoom in on videos of Youtube etc.
OS,PROCESSOR AND STORAGE
This Motorola phone comes with Android 9 which I think is criminal at this time of the year.Yes you will get updated to Android 10 but still the idea hurts.Like other Motorola phones this comes with stock Android features.
The G8 Power Lite runs on the Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35 chipset(12nm technology). The octa core processor has one quad core with 2.3GHZ and another with 1.7GHz.The GPU is IMG.PowerVR GE8320.
It has LPDDR4X 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.Along with the dual SIM slot comes a dedicated MicroSD card slot which allows expandable memory upto 256GB.
It sports a triple camera module with a primary 16MP(f/2.0) wide sensor,a 2MP(f/2.4) macro sensor and a 2MP(f/2.4) depth sensor.
The camera has a single LED flash supports HDR and Panorama. It also comes with features like face detection auto focus. With the help of the depth sensor the Portrait mode is also quite good.
Maximum of 1080p videos can be shot @30fps.
Moto G8 Power Lite sports a 8MP(f/2.0) selfie camera with HDR.Though there is no depth sensor the front camera also features bokeh effect with the help of softwares. So you get Portrait selfies though not of very high quality.
It also can capture a maximum of 1080p videos at 30fps.
As already mentioned the fingerprint sensor is rear mounted and it unlocks quite fast.
The phone supports 3.5mm jack and the speaker audio range is really good.
No NFC is present and also no USB Type C as the phone supports micro USB.
Bluetooth 4.2 is supported.
BATTERY AND COLOURS
The massive 5000mAH battery should give the claimed 2 days life as the display resolution is also low.It supports 10W normal charging.
There are 2 colour variants available-Royal Blue and Arctic Blue.
COMPARISON WITH REALME NARZO 10A
Both are quite similar phones in terms of size and specs. The display is completely same but there are a few differences.
WHY THE REALME NARZO 10A
- Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection
- Android 10 from the box but the skin is Realme UI 1.0
- Mediatek Helio G70 SoC with Mali-G52 2EEMC2 which is a slightly better processor than the Helio P35 though difference is negligible to a non pro eye
WHY THE MOTO G8 POWER LITE
- Bigger RAM and storage of 4GB and 64 GB respectively.Narzo 10A has 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
- The primary camera is of 16MP while that of the Narzo 10A is 12MP
- Front camera is 8MP to that of 5MP in Narzo 10A
At the price we are talking I feel that Moto G8 Power Lite is an excellent buy.One cannot forget the legend of Motorola as well. For the last few years Motorola has been releasing phones in this segment and they know what to do.You can be assured that on buying this you are not missing out on something.
From the comparison also it is clear that it is better than the Narzo 10A.So what do you think? Please let me know in comments.
