Moto G 5G Plus is the newest release from Motorola and it sets an example that 5G devices can be cheaper.I feel and I have said it before too that Motorola is back specially in the budget section.Every other week a new Motorola smartphone is being launched and none of them are dissatisfying.
The Motorola One Fusion+ was a hit atleast in India and I am sure the Moto G 5G Plus will be the same when it launches here.It has already launched in European countries and is available for sale in the UK from the 10th of this month.
The overall design and looks can remind you of the Motorola Edge Plus their flagship model but the Moto G 5G Plus is a lot cheaper.Let’s have an in-depth look at its specifications and features.
DESIGN AND BODY
The Moto G 5G Plus is a flat device i.e no fancy curves in the display. The big display makes the phone look a little elongated type.Bezels are minimum. It has a almost square quad camera module at the back and a dual camera module on the frontwhich looks more like two punch holes than a notch. There is a dedicated Google Assistant button and the phone is advertised as water repellant which translates into the fact that it is splash proof.
The dimensions of the phone are – 168mm×74mm×9mm.It weighs 207g.The weight makes the phone sound hefty but actually it is plastic build and the weight is completely due to the massive battery.
DISPLAY
The phone sports a big 6.7″ IPS LCD display with FHD+(1080×2520) resolution. It is HDR 10 supported and has a pixel density of~409ppi.Motorola calls this display Cinema Vision as the aspect ratio is 21:9.This ensures crisp images and full screen view of FHD videos. But this also has an inherent disadvantage in the fact that videos of lower resolution will be played in a small box at the centre of the screen.

Moto G 5G Plus has a screen refresh rate of 90Hz this making swiping, scrolling and clicking a better experience. Also it is in accordance with the modern trend of high refresh rate displays.
OS, PROCESSOR AND STORAGE
The phone runs on Android 10 with no software skin on top.Like all Motorola phones this gives you stock android experience which implies the latest upcoming Android 11 should be available sooner on release than most other devices.Though no superficial skin is present the usual Motorola gestures are available.
Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC with octa core processor (1×2.4GHz,1×2.2GHz,6×1.8GHz).This chipset has an integrated 5G modem which enables the Moto G 5G Plus to be a 5G handset. The GPU is Adreno 620.
4GB and 6GB RAM are the available options with 64GB and 128GB respectively UFS2.1 internal storage. There is also a micro SD card slot which shares spot with the dual sim tray and you can expand storage upto 1TB.
CAMERA
REAR CAMERA
The Moto G 5G Plus houses a quad camera set-up with primary 48MP f/1.7 lens,a 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide sensor with 118°field of view,a 5MP f/2.2 macro lens and a 2MP f/2.2 depth sensor. The camera features Quad Pixel technology and the primary 48MP lens captures 12MP images by default owing to pixel binning. There is a dedicated night mode.Features like auto smile capture is also present.

4K [email protected] and 1089p [email protected]/60fps can be shot.Video features include slow motion, time lapse, video snapshot, macro videos etc.Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) is present.
FRONT CAMERA
On the front is a dual camera set-up which sports a 16MP f/2.0 wide sensor and a 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide sensor.Front camera has features like screen flash, face beauty,Auto smile recognition, Gesture Selfies etc.The ultra wide sensor also enables group selfies.Videos of 1080p can be captured at 30fps.
OTHER FEATURES
The fingerprint sensor is embedded on the power button.Face unlock is also available as an option of unlocking the phone alongside pattern or password.
As mentioned earlier a dedicated Google Assistant button is present.
3.5 mm jack is supported for wired headphones. On audio part there is only one bottom mounted speaker a property I dislike as you all know how often the speaker is covered by our hand accidentally thus smudging the sound.
Bluetooth 5.1, Dual Band Wi-Fi,USB Type C and NFC is supported.
A new Game Time mode ensures immersive gaming experience with features like notification blocking and other resources management.
To top it all the phone has 5G support and if you are in an area with 5G then you can access it as simple as that.
BATTERY AND COLOURS
The Moto G 5G Plus has a mighty 5000 mAH battery which supports 20W fast or turbo Charging. The big battery ensures one day of battery life with extensive use and it may easily go into the second day as well.Fast charging could have been faster as many others are giving 30W options.
Only one colour variant is available- the Surfing Blue.

CONCLUSION
Moto G 5G Plus is a direct competitor to the upcoming Oneplus Nord which is confirmed of being a budget 5G smartphone. The Oneplus Nord has created a lot of hype even before its launch which will be an AR event on 21stJuly.What Motorola has done better is that it already has launched their device. Now time will tell which is more successful.
The Moto G 5G Plus is a fully packed warhorse.Yes it doesn’t have the Snapdragon 765G which is a little better for games but performance wise the Snapdragon 765 is pretty good for the price point we are talking about. The big display with the stretched 21:9 aspect ratio, the huge battery and pure Android experience is very tempting.Priced at ~350€ this will be a very good deal in my opinion.
