Asus Zenfone 7 Pro and Zenfone 7 have been launched in Taiwan.Global release dates and price will be announced later this week.Lookwise the phone follows in the footsteps of its predecessor the Zenfone 6 but there are differences.
The recently launched Asus ROG Phone 3 is a gaming Smartphone. The Asus Zenfone 7 Pro thus is the flagship device of the company. Both are actually highest end devices but the ROG Phone comes with game centric features like extra cooling technologies, extra USB ports and pressure sensitive buttons on sides exclusively for games.
The Zenfone 7 Pro is more standard Smartphone.Rest assured with the specs it offers gaming will be a very good experience here as well. The Zenfone 7 which was released alongside has just two differences with the Pro model which I will point out later in the post. Now let’s dive into some details.
Table of Contents
DESIGN AND DISPLAY
The highlights of the Asus Zenfone 7 Pro is the camera module. It is a motorized flip camera module which serves the purpose of both rear and front cameras. As soon as you switch to front camera from your camera menu the back camera module flips open and becomes front facing. The mechanism has fall tracking which ensures that if the phone suddenly drops from your hand with the camera open then it will retrace automatically.

The camera mechanism makes it impossible for the Zenfone 7 Pro to have IP certification for water resistance. Also the phone is relatively thicker than others and also heavier. The dimensions are 165.1mm×77.3mm×9.6mm.It weighs 230g.
The front and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and the frame is Aluminium.Going along with the trend the Asus Zenfone 7 Pro doesn’t have a 3.5mm jack.Stereo speakers are present.
Zenfone 7 Pro sports a big 6.67″ Amoled display with 1080×2400 resolution. Thanks to the motorized flip front camera there are no obstructions in the form of notch or punch hole thus enabling an immersive video watching and gaming experience. The aspect ratio is 20:9 and advertised maximum brightness is 700 nits.
The refresh rate is 90Hz and the display is HDR10+ supported.
OS, PROCESSOR AND STORAGE
The Zenfone 7 Pro comes with Zenfone UI 7 software skin slapped over Android 10.
Under the hood is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC with octa core processor (1×3.1GHz,3×2.42GHz,4×1.8GHz).So in terms of performance the Zenfone 7 Pro gives the best experience as it has the best processor Android has to offer. The Zenfone 7 has Snapdragon 865 chipset. Both have Adreno 650 GPU.This processor makes the Zenfone 7 Pro and 7 5G ready.
The Zenfone 7 Pro comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage powered by UFS3.1.The Zenfone 7 on the other hand has two storage options 6GB and 8GB RAM with 128 GB internal storage. Both the phones have a dedicated slot for micro SD card.
CAMERAS
A triple camera set-up is housed with a primary 64MP f/1.8 lens,a 8MP f/2.4 telephoto lens and a 12MP f/2.2 ultra wide angle lens with 113° field of view. The primary camera and the telephoto lens has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)and the latter supports upto 3X optical zoom. The field of view on the ultra wide sensor is noticeably smaller.
[email protected] videos can be captured along with [email protected]/60/120,[email protected]/60/240 and [email protected]
Since the same cameras become the selfie shooters the Zenfone 7 Pro and 7 become the first phone to be able to shoot 8K videos from front camera.Besides this the phone also becomes one of the best selfie camera phone as at this moment I cannot think of a smartphone having 64MP selfie snapper.
BATTERY AND COLOURS
A massive 5000mAH battery powers the phone with 30W fast charging prowess. This enables charging from 0to 69%in 34 mins and 100% in about 93 minutes.Wireless charging is not available which I feel is a disadvantage.
Aurora Black and Pastel White are the colour options.

CONCLUSION
The USP of the Asus Zenfone 7 Pro and Zenfone 7 is the motorized flip camera.Image processing still remains to be seen but the specs sheet is eye-catching no doubt.Performance will undoubtedly be among the best as the chipset is the best available at this moment.
Price globally will be a decisive factor and let’s hope the company keeps it reasonable. The only glitch I found is the display which could have had quad HD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate though I should mention 90Hz is excellent and you get FHD resolution at 120Hz even in the very high priced Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
